Happy Teacher's Day!

Yesterday, our school celebrated Hillgrove's Appreciation Day in respond to Teacher's Day. It was a blast of fun indeed as the day started off with all Hillgrovians wearing half-uniform and feeling happy on that particular day. The atmosphere was indeed bright and many packets of presents could be seen bulging out from the bags of many students. Personally for me, I didn't get any presents for any of my teachers. But I think it doesn't matter. I remembered what my old primary school teacher had to say: "Presents or gifts aren't important. What's important is to see the students grow up and learn from their teachers to lead a successful life". So, showering gifts to our teachers are not the only way to reward our teachers. Its for us to study well and show to our teachers that we are capable to do well in our studies that is most important to them. Students being able to capture a teacher's teachings is the best gift a teacher can ever have. Therefore, we should all study hard to impress our teachers! So yeah, moving on, we all proceeded to do our all-awaited ACES workout (featuring the YOG cheer "Oh yeah!") Man, it was a spectacular workout indeed. People went wild and screams of fun and joy were heard. If only someone had recorded the moments, that would be awesome...

Okay... Next? Oh yeah, ITS THE CONCERT OF COURSE!!! I don't have to elaborate further, IT WAS PROBABLY THE BEST CONCERT EVER IN THE HISTORY OF HILLGROVE SECONDARY SCHOOL. PERFORMANCES BY THE DANCE GROUP, THE SINGING AND THE SONGS SECTION WERE A HIT!!! BUT ONE ITEM STANDS OUT FROM THE REST: THE BAND BIONICS SPECIALLY FORMED BY OUR VERY OWN TEACHERS. Their sensational singing and music were a top favorite amongst us students as it came as a big surprise to know that our very own teachers had talents! They really should come up with a 'Band CCA'. I'm sure loads will join in this CCA. They performed "Don't Stop Believing" from the popular TV-series 'Glee' and another in which I have forgotten. After the song ended, the crowd went wild for an encore. And what could the teachers do, than to heed with our requests. They performed the first song again and that was that. In the end, like I said before, it was the best happy ending to that. Really, what better way to celebrate our wonderful teacher's and their hard work. So thus with this, I wish all teachers out there A VERY HAPPY TEACHER'S DAY!!! :D

Singapore's moment to shine - The Inaugural Youth Olympic Games!

Woohoo! The long-awaited Youth Olympic Games in Singapore has started! On the 14 of August, Singapore and many nations gathered on the floating platform to witness the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games, an essential part of an utmost important event in the World's history. It was a spectacular opening indeed and everyone must have enjoyed the performance. Then, on the following days, many games had started. Battles to win glory for their country was witnessed and triumphs, hardships, and true strengths were revealed as the youths beat it out on their competitive sport they represent in. Friendships prosperred and memories were shared. Truly these youth olympiads will not forget these memories they fostered in the years to come. As of now, Singapore currently won three medals for three different sports; one of them being Singapore's first Silver medal in the olympic history. Well done Team Singapore! You have done us proud! More matches of events will be up next so do stay tuned and support our very own Team Singapore in the hopes of winning another medal for Singapore!

That aside, I apologise in the delay of the frequency of updates. I have been busy these few weeks, so school work is partially to blame. But not to worry, this blog will not die as long as I'm around to keep it fresh and active. So the school's been actively participating in the YOG and showed its support for this, as can be proofed of the setting up of the YOG standee near the Main staircase of our school. Also, many other important events occured in our school such as the National Day Parade. Do visit our school website at http://www.hillgrovesec.moe.edu.sg/ and read uo more on the recent events that happened. I guess there's not really much to talk about, so I'll end here with a funny video I found on YouTube. Happy watching!

Fun time with China students!

On Friday, our school welcomed 20 students from Xian 38th High School, China. They were here for an Immersion Exchange Programme with our school to learn more about our diverse culture and way of life. They were also here to see how we Singaporeans go about doing our daily lives in school and how we study. For some of us who were lucky enough to go to China for the study fieldtrip, we would agree that the education system there is as equally tough as here in Singapore. Though they might be a syllabus lower than us, their school hours are incredibly long. But still, the students there are keen on learning, thus they are not bothered by the long hours of school. In case some of you have no idea on how long their school hours are, I can say school starts at 7.30a.m. (Singapore and China time) to about 4p.m (and this excludes their Co-curricular activities). If we were to study there, I know many of us will sure dread as the time goes by. That's why we should treasure school and take on our studies seriously.. Besides, if they passionate about studying for their future, why not us, as Singaporean sudents?

So, moving on, yesterday, I went out on an outing with Jean and Xiao Min to treat their buddies some local delicacies and buy them some gifts. First, Jean and I head to Westmall to buy some gifts for her buddy while waiting for Xiao Min. After half an hour of shopping, Xiao Min finally arrived. Jean (so-called) lectured Xiao Min for being late, and then we all headed out to Club CSC that was located nearby. There, we played bowling for the very first time. But I gotta say, after ten whole rounds, the winner was none other than, me! Talk about professionalism at first try hehe... Then, we headed back to Westmall to grab some lunch before heading to Bugis. So then we went to a certain place where the street was abuzz with Singaporeans and tourists alike. Apparently, it was a shopping district and none could resists the offer the stalls were giving. So the girls went on screaming like hell and bought anything girls would buy (wallet, handbag, watches, and yup, you name it. Girls...). Amazingly, the China pupils joined in for some fun! Okay, so I just followed them from behind to make sure they don't get lost. After about an hour or two, we finally decided to head back home. But Jean and Xiao Min still had dinner afterwards, so we went on our own ways. Instead, I went home while they had dinner. All in all, the day was fun. Finally get to do something rather than staying at home and die of boredom... And here I have a picture of Xiao Min's buddy. Apparently she's just 13 (or 14) years old. Young huh? Apparently I was too late to take a picture of Jean's buddy...

Updates!

Its been approximately three months since I've written the last post. I've waited for you guys to provide me with your new updated blog links, but sadly, only two people gave me their new updated blog links. Both Rui Ling and Francesca (thanks guys!) provided their links through the chatbox as you guys can see. I had to manually search for you guys' links through trial and error (don't ask me how) and I've managed to get a few (you guys can try it out from the links I've provided). Please do visit this blog and check whether I've updated the links correctly. If there's any mistakes, do email me at 1e2unite@gmail.com or leave a tag through the chatbox. This way, we can still be connected though we may be apart. We should maintain this spirit of SOTONG-ness as this is what we all wanted from the beginning, remember? I bet Mrs. Fadriel also wished for this to happen. So do update your links and stay connected as one; thSOTONGS!

Okay so moving on, remember that I used to post articles or videos from the Internet or YouTube. Yeap, I'll be continuing this service again from now onwards so as to liven up this blog. I'll also be posting any other interesting topics from the local region or from around the world. So expect some new fresh contents now and then. Oh, almost forgot, do post your class photos here too! I will post a photo of my class here later below. Do email me your class photos (if you have any) and share it with the world (see how your friends have grown up too)! I hope to see replies soon this time! :D

And my personal favourite, Annoying Orange!

So let us all stay in touch!
We will all be friends FOREVER
I dedicate a song:朋友(Friends)!(from K.O 3an Guo!) Paiseh la, no translation for our non-chinese classmates

Lyrics:

(:

Okay, so this will be the final week that we all would ever be together (perhaps). We shared precious memories, both happy and sad ones, together as a class and went through two years of tough education. Next year, most of us would be separated into our own corresponding classes. Even so, I believe our Sotongs (or so we called it) will still live within us yeah? I hope you guys will not forget each other and forget about the wonderful times we had together as a class. Many things happened this last two years and I hope you guys will not forget who you guys are once - a Sotong from 2E2 (2009). May your journey ahead be as prosperous and fun like these two years. With that, I wish you guys good luck for your Subject Combination and class decision for next year.

With love,
Fadhil

Will we still be friends?

We might be best friends for a year, pretty good friends the next year, don't talk that often the next year, and don't want to talk at all the years after that. So I just want to say, even if I never talk to you again in my life, you're still my friend and you make a difference in my life. I look up to you and respect you. Send this to all your friends, no matter how often you talk to them, or how close you are to them.

Congrats

OH HI GUYS! This is Gabriel. Yes, Gabriel HOW. HAHA YES, i know this is a bit too late, but just wish to say, CONGRATS on completing your END OF YEAR EXAMINATIONS!

Anyway, just an advice. For those who's still considering on what subjects to choose next year, YES, for those who wanna take History next year, PLEASE KNOW THAT History in Upper Sec and Lower Sec is MUCH MUCH MUCH more different.

History will be like Social Studies, so, I do recommend taking History. Some of you asked me whether will Mdm Tiong teaches Upper Sec or not. The answer is NO. Mr Bambung, Miss Tan Li Bing, Mr Ho (perhaps him) will be teaching HISTORY.

I'm not discouraging people from taking Geography, but if you want, go ahead and take it. =) I'm just saying my view. HAHA. Okay, till then, FAREWELL.

For people who hateX maths

Its funny!!"thats how you study maths okay :)"
